Campsite re-development on northwestern fringes of Edale village within Peak District National Park Upper Valley Pastures landscape character. Site presented National Park special qualities protection requirements: Edale Conservation Area setting with multiple Grade II listed buildings (including Sycamore Cottage, Lea House), Pennine Way long-distance promoted route along northern boundary, Open Access land receptor concerns from Kinder Scout plateau and Great Ridge Walk elevations, and Upper Valley Pastures character sensitivities requiring landscape and biodiversity enhancement strategies.

KEY OUTCOMES

• Consent granted with visual assessment demonstrating limited visual envelope confined predominantly to high ground receptors in east; mature tree cover provided robust landscape infrastructure seamlessly merging with village green infrastructure enveloping Edale linear settlement.

• Visual containment confirmed from Open Access land receptors on Kinder Scout plateau and Great Ridge Walk with development diminutive in scale relative to wider panoramic scenes; Vale of Edale receptors restricted by intervening vegetation and undulating landform with Pennine Way sunken into ravine along northern boundary.

• Heritage assessment confirmed no effects on setting of Grade II listed buildings within Edale Conservation Area through containment by mature vegetation, builtform and topography; high architectural quality design using natural non-glare materials reflecting PDNP design guidance.

• Landscape enhancement strategy delivered native understorey planting to southern boundary mitigating Mam Tor views; woodland edge planting interspaced between pods providing privacy and screening from Rowland Cote Moor and The Nab high ground to east.

• Biodiversity enhancement through native woodland edge and understorey species with meadow grassland habitats; stone wall restoration and hedgerow enhancement incorporating meadow grassland verges; native scrub mix softening car parking.

• Upper Valley Pastures LCT demonstrated very minor alteration with recognisable elements; site's long-established tourism precedence confirmed proposals not significantly altering existing character with effects localised through well-developed boundary vegetation.
